Often, I ask: "How do you solve the problem?"
To me, this question sounds inspiring because it is part of the Plan B, which I use to help clients I work with.
Problem-solving involves some of the most interesting moments when working with clients. Regardless of their position as senior executives, employees, partners, experts, or managers they are facing diverse problems daily. Thus, our common and overall responsibility in a peer-to-peer relationship always comes down to solving diverse problems.
To me, problems always represent opportunities to open critical thinking minds, to explore suitable techniques and to solve problems the right and better way. The starting point is obtaining answers to the right questions, while following the win-win rule, and by applying several steps the right way, as well.
Below are the Plan B leadership steps for problem-solving that can help you, too, achieve right and better results.
Step 1. Correctly define each problem.
Step 2. Correctly identify the factors, influencing the problem.
Step 3. Correctly determine alternatives that can solve the problem.
Step 4. Correctly choose the one alternative that can solve the problem.
Step 5. Correctly execute the chosen alternative.
Step 6. Correctly measure the result from the executed alternative and evaluate it against the expected outcome.
Step 7. Correctly implement steps 1 through 6, until the measured result satisfies the expected outcome.
Let the win-win rule be the guiding principle when making a decision, considering a matter or when executing the decision.
In conclusion, the steps mentioned above can help you better analyze and understand the problems your organization, team or your business is facing with. However, do not forget that the context of your environment plays an important role, and your capabilities can influence your goals. Therefore, it is important to constantly and quickly determine the right goals, according to the right and up-to-date information.
